DIVE - Stacey Donovan

ON THE BACK

Some questions don't have answers.

Piece by piece, Virginia's life is unraveling. As her father's terminal illness advances and strains family bonds, Virginia looks for something to hold fast to. She doesn't find it in her suddenly aloof best friend, and she doesnt find it in her grieving family. Then Jane walks into her life, awakening in V emotions that both excite and disturb. As V falls for Jane, she begins to discover that in love, as in life, there are more questions than answers.

MY THOUGHTS

DIVE is an awesome book. Virginia (often called by her nickname V) is a 15-year-old girl, whose life suddenly seems to make no sense at all. Her dog becomes the victim of a hit and run one-day before school. A few days later Virginia's father is sent to the hospital, her mother becomes even more of a wreck and her best friend Eileen starts to ignore her. It's like V has no one to turn to, until Jane, a new girl at school shows up. Jane and Virginia's friendship seems to be becoming more than just a friendship when V finds herself falling in love with her new friend.

If you like stories told in first person or even if you don't. You should definitely pick up DIVE by Stacey Donovan. It's a great read, very realistic and full of emotion. So what are you waiting for? READ IT ALREADY!!

EXCERPT

I AM ALIVE

There are simple questions. Like why did the chicken cross the road? Knock, knock. Who's there? Then there are the ones that make no sense. Who ran my dog over yesterday? What kind of person wouldn't even hit the breaks?

Some poet said April is the cruelest month. Now that's something. That stuff can be true without even making sense. And oh, my poor vexed mind. It's everywhere at once. In the fridge stinking with vegetables, under the tires of that awful green car that slammed my Lucky. My mind is a bad neighborhood: I should not go into it alone.

Dive by Stacey Donovan is 240 pages long. There are 32 chapters. It is a paperback book, published in 1996 by Puffin Books
